This post reminds me of some of the ideas in Henri Nouwen's The Way of the Heart. In a self-centered, noisy culture, the power of stillness and a quiet heart often get overlooked.
Such a vulnerable and profound reflection! This is a little talked of part of the spiritual life, but can bear great fruit in our souls. Thank you for sharing this.
This is such a good word, Sarah. For most of us, publishing a new book every two or three years isn’t wise. Those experiences need time to germinate in the dark.
I mean maybe there are people who are quicker to learn than me?! But I've always really appreciated books that clearly took a while to write, the wisdom hard-won. That's the kind of writing I aspire to!
This is a strange tension for Christian writers and speakers. We want to make our work very public in order to proclaim the good news, but it's a fine line between glorifying God and seeking attention for ourselves. I am trying my best to walk that tension with you, friend.
Thank you for these thoughts. You know, I struggled with similar things in writing and speaking. I appreciate you being so candid about it.
It's always good to know we're not alone!

I love Henri Nouwen but haven't read that book! Thanks for pointing me in that direction, Susan!

Thank you so much, Angela!
"A deed that exists for the sake of recognition is not for God; it’s for you." The truth of this makes me wince too.
It really makes me want to take a closer look at my motives!

It's such a tension! And thanks for your comment, it's nice to know I'm in good company :)
